THE JOB OF A CUSTODIAN

The job of a custodian is to make sure students have a clean learning environment and that teachers have a teachable environment as well. Custodians strive day after day to keep the James A. Forrest School campus clean and most importantly safe from any obstacles that might impose a danger to students and staff members. At times we are short handed for the many reasons that may exist, but that does not prevent my staff from prioritizing on items that need immediate attention. In the future, I would like to see that staff and custodian work hand in hand on items that will make cleaning easier. It truly makes a difference when staff and custodians have a good source of communication when it comes to making cleaning adjustments. In the past years, I have seen some great improvements in staff/custodian communication, but I would like to see more of that in the future, especially as our campus continues to grow and custodial help tends to remain the same.

THE JOB OF A NURSE

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

In our school district, we have one registered nurse with a health clerk at each school site. Our goal is to have every child ready to learn, by having their basic needs met so they will achieve optimal physical, emotional, social, and educational development so they are prepared for full participation in society.
